In celebrating
60 years at the Albion Area Fair we will take you back in time
with some grand Dixie Time music by the Dixie Doodlers
and some harmonizing of the oldies and goodies from a group of
females called The Taffetas.
The Dixie
Doodlers originated in Meadville, Pennsylvania over 50 years
ago. The tradition of Dixieland started in New Orleans and went
up the Mississippi to the Midwest, and eventually to New York
over a hundred years ago. Dixieland has its own unique blend of
instruments, rhythm, and style. Everyone young and old can enjoy
the sounds of the talented Dixie Doodlers and the Dixieland sounds.
The band released an album in 1960 and has recently released a
remastered version of Dixie Doodlers at Conneaut Lake Park. Also
available is a video produced in 2004.
The Dixie
Doodlers musicians are: Doug Dinberg, a lawyer from
Oil City, playing the saxophone and clarinet; Tom Lewis,
the only original member remaining, is from Erie and plays the
trombone; John Kytic is from Bradford and plays piano;
Bill Beggs, a school teacher and native of Corry, is the
drummer; Bill Reese, from Millcreek, is the Tuba and Banjo
player; and Don Haener is the band leader and trumpet player
from Erie and a 22-year member of the group.
The Taffetas
show is a harmonic musical romp through the age of innocence when
guy and girl groups were the thing. The 50s brought us the
age of doo-wop, a singing style known for harmonies
and nonsensical syllables. This will be a nostalgic journey to
the days of poodle skirts, bobby socks, and saddle shoes. The
Taffetas singing sensations are: Karen Brennan as Kaye,
Karen Nasca as Peggy, Almitra Clerkin
as Donna and Rae Jean Urbanowicz as Cheryl.
Please join them for a night of Mr. Sandman, Cry,
Sincerely, Fly Me to the Moon, Lollipop,
Johnny Angel, and Where the Boys Are and
more.
You dont
want to miss this exciting mix of talent all on one stage for
one performance only Friday at 9 pm approximately (following the
tractor pull event). If you would like to book this fine
group of performers, please call Don Haener at 814-825-9543.
