Come out and
enjoy the music and dancing from Noon until 6 pm with some eclectic
mixtures of multi-cultural polka styles, combined with country,
waltz, fox-trot, square-dance, and contemporary. The band is not
an oompah-pah band or the stereotypical polka band.
The style is considered Modern Polka. The group plays
songs with roots in country, classic rock and contemporary music.
The band was
formed in 1978 by lead accordionist, Fred Scherz Sr. and his 8-year
old son, Fritz, for whom the band was named.
The band has
since made 11 recordings, performed on stage with some of the
Kings of Polka, played at Woodstock 99, New
York State Fair, and various other events, colleges, weddings,
anniversaries, etc. The band consists of: Fred Scherz Sr., piano
accordion and Swiss accordion; Fritz Scherz, piano accordion and
button-box accordion; Gabe Vaccaro, bass guitar and guitar; Tom
Campbell and Frank Nelson on guitar; and Rick Szczyt on drums
and all the members sing vocals.
This is sure
to be a fun-filled day with exciting new blends of music and some
great audience enthusiasm. Dont miss the only performance
in Pennsylvania in 2004 this group is making. All the other booked
dates for this group are for New York and Cleveland, Ohio.
